Hey, it’s Conor Cunneen – IrishmanSpeaks here
Once again with some practical tips on how to add humor to your presentation—even in the most serious industries like healthcare.
💡 Humor Tip of the Day: “Google on the Bing or Bing on the Google”
When you’re preparing a presentation, one of the easiest ways to add humor—without trying to write your own stand-up routine—is by searching for industry-specific funny material.
Ask yourself:
- What industry am I speaking to?
- What quirky behaviors, inside jokes, or common frustrations exist there?
- Can I find a funny article, meme, or quote related to that space?
If you work in healthcare, you’re in luck! I actually speak quite a bit to healthcare organizations and cancer survivor groups—and trust me, there’s a lot of heart (and laughter) in those rooms when humor is used with care and relevance.
🎯 Real-Life Example: My Two-Time Cancer Line
In my talks to healthcare groups, oncology nurses, cancer survivors and care-givers, I often share this line…
“I’m a two-time cancer survivor—prostate cancer and thyroid cancer. Both of them have been, well… removed! So now I tell my audiences that after a prostatectomy and a thyroidectomy, I suffer from a rare Irish condition known as:
‘There’s not much left to me!’”
Now, does this get a Kevin Hart-style laugh? Sometimes, yes, because it relates specifically to my oncology audience and I have been brought in as a “humorous motivational speaker oncology” or similar cancer related theme.
But it always draws a smile—and that’s all you need.
Because…
- ✅ A Smile Builds Connection.
- ✅ Connection Builds Trust.
- ✅ Trust Makes Your Message Stick.
💬 What You Can Do to Add Humor to your Presentation
Whether you’re speaking to:
- Nurses,
- Sales teams,
- Engineers, or
- Financial planners…
You can Google (or Bing!) humor in your audience’s industry. Why there’s even them fancy AI thingamajig things that you can search to get some humorous (although not always good) content. Just search:
“[Your industry] humor”
“[Your audience] jokes”
“[Your setting] funny quotes”
I love old black and white western movies. It’s not unusual for one of the characters to say “There’s gold in them there hill, Pardner!” For you, you can find gold in them there hills simply by Googling on the Bing or that new fangled AI thingy!!. 🌽

Final Thought: You Don’t Need to Be Funny to Be Funny
What you do need is to be intentional about listening, capturing, and using humor that reinforces your message—not distracts from it.
So go on… Google on the Bing… or Bing on the Google… and get that audience smiling.
With a smile,
Conor Cunneen
