Employee Engagement Speaker Foodservice
Chicago-based IrishmanSpeaks Conor Cunneen
As an employee engagement speaker foodservice and front line retail I have one core belief that consistently gets nods of approval from my clients and audience. My core belief is:
You Cannot Substantially Improve Employees Net Worth. You CAN Improve their SELF Worth!
How do you improve Employees Self Worth. The basic logic here is you deliberately and intentionally treat your employees and team like you wish to be treated. We all know this, but we don’t always practice what we preach.
Like many things in life we can benefit from a disciplined process.
Here, I provide some details around my core concept of Employee Engagement through the Gift of GAB (Goals, Attitude, Behavior).
Step #1 involves DECIDING to work on Employee Engagement and Retention. It won’t happen by chance.
The best way I can illustrate this is by presenting this slightly goofball video – with a morale.

Employee Engagement through the Gift of GAB (Goals, Attitude, Behavior)
Initially, we look at Goals – Macro and Micro. The Macro-Goal for each individual foodservice employee is determined by asking the question “What do I want to be famous for?” Now, I don’t mean famous as in Lady Gaga or Kim Kardashian. I mean famous within your work community. What is it you would like people to say about you when you leave the room? If you are nominated as employee of the year, what is the opening line in your celebration.
If you know what you want to be famous for, you can now start working on that Macro-Goal which can be achieved via FIVE Micro-Goals that just happen to spell the Acronym CHAPS. These goals are:
C – Compliment one person today. (SEE Employee Engagement article on The Power of a Compliment).
H – Hear ‘Thank You’ for one co-worker today
A – Address colleagues / customers with their name (See more on Address Colleagues with name)
P – Positive words create positive impact
S – Smile – as in, Put a smile on someone’s face.
